PTI concealed Rs312mn in 53 bank accounts, reveals ECP

Report reveals party exhibited uncooperative nature in revealing details of foreign accounts

An incriminating report made by the scrutiny committee of the Election Commission of Pakistan has revealed that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) received funds from abroad, under-reported its funds and concealed numerous of its bank accounts.

The report reveals that the ruling party under-reported a staggering Rs312 million over a time period of four years between financial year 2009-2010 and financial year 2012-2013. Further details reveal that Rs145 million was under-reported in financial year 2012-2013.

The report also divulges the party’s refusal to report the particulars of large transactions. Moreover, it highlights the uncooperative nature of the party in revealing details of its foreign accounts.

The document also questions the certificate that was signed by PTI Chairman and Prime Minister Imran Khan, which was submitted alongside the facts of the party’s audited accounts.

The report came forth as the ECP resumed its hearing of the foreign funding case against the party, after a period of nearly nine months.

The case has been unresolved since November 14, 2014. The Election Commission of Pakistan heard the case more than 150 times with the party pursuing postponement 54 times.

In response, PTI ministers sprang into action to support their party. Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry called the report “inaccurate”. Speaking at a press conference, he demanded to compare all foreign funding received by the political parties of the country in order for the public to see their standing.

He went on to claim that two transactions, of Rs150mn and Rs160mn, had been counted twice citing duplication. The minister claimed that there was no proof of foreign funding received by the party.
