On the directives of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday said it would hear the foreign funding case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on a daily basis.

The IHC had ordered that the case had to be decided within 30 days, so the ECP will hear it next on April 19. On April 14, a single-judge bench headed by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued a judgement, upholding the ECP’s decision to give access to the case’s record to the PTI’s founding member Akbar S Babar and not to remove him from the proceedings.

The PTI had filed petitions on January 25 and 31 on the aforementioned two requests, which were rejected by the ECP on March 15. The party had then moved the top court against the ECP decisions. The IHC, in a detailed order, rejected the PTI’s writ petition, allowing Akbar S Babar to participate in the case proceedings. The order said the ECP, as a constitutional body, had the right to seek his assistance and come to conclusions based on the merits of the case.
