Former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari has been arrested from outside her house by the anti-corruption department.

According to a local news outlet, the former human rights minister was arrested in a case related to encroachment in District Rajanpur.

The case was filed at the Deputy Commissioner Rajanpur’s request. The Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab registered the FIR afterwards.

A complaint was registered against her on March 11, 2022, while Assistant Commissioner Rajanpur was asked to look into the matter. The AC compiled the report of the case on April 8 on the basis of which the Anti-Corruption Establishment registered a criminal case under its Rules 2014.

Following the detention, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf moved the Islamabad High Court and announced to hold country-wide protests later today.

In a tweet, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Iftikhar Durrani took to twitter to disclose the news where he claimed that the former minister had been picked up from outside her residence. Then then called on the party workers to assemble and gather at Police Station Kohsaar.

Soon after former information minister Fawad Chaudhry also took to twitter to disclose the news that Shireen Mazari had been arrested outside her house.

Meanwhile, the former minister’s daughter Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir said that male police officers had beaten and taken her mother away. She said that she was told that officers of the Anti-Corruption Wing had taken her away.

The Islamabad Police then later clarified its position on Twitter that Mazari had not been manhandled as claimed by her daughter. It said that female police officers arrested Mazari according to the law at the request of the Anti-Corruption department.
