PTI MNAs, workers arrested as protestors barge into Sindh House

Two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of National Assembly (MNAs) along with 12 party workers were arrested on Friday as party supporters stormed the Sindh House in Islamabad following a protest against dissenting lawmakers who had taken refuge there.

Television footage showed PTI workers scaling the walls of Sindh House with others attempting to break down the doors to enter the building. They also carried ‘lotas’ in protest against “turncoats”.

The protest had initiated peacefully but turned into violence as the protestors broke the gate open and barged into the Sindh House.

According to media reports, two PTI MNAs, Attaullah Niazi and Faheem Khan, were arrested with a dozen party workers by Islamabad police.

Pakistan People’s Party leader Sharjeel Memon called the assault a “failure” of Islamabad police and the interior ministry. He said, “We consider the attack on Sindh House an attack on Sindh province.”

He added that the answer had been given to PTI federal ministers who had been questioning why policemen from Sindh were deployed at the building.

Memon called on the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and the Supreme Court to “urgently” take notice of the “terrorist attack” inside the Red Zone. He appealed that a case be registered against “federal ministers and MNAs who were involved”.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed has issued orders to arrest the PTI supporters involved in the “unfortunate incident”.

He stated that the situation was “under control”, and added that the inspector general of police Islamabad had been directed to arrest all those involved in the protest.
