PTI readies to take action against dissident lawmakers

PM Khan rejects response from dissenting lawmakers, calls it “unsatisfactory”

Prime Minister Imran Khan and chairman of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, has issued orders to file a reference to National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser against the dissenting lawmakers of the party.

A statement was released following a meeting of Adviser to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan and PTI Additional Secretary-General and Member of National Assembly Amir Kayani.

The statement read, “On the directives of prime minister and chairman PTI Imran Khan, references have been finalized against the dissident MNAs of the party.”

The statement added that the reference would also include “documented evidence” against the party’s dissident lawmakers. It said that PM Khan had rejected the dissidents’ reply to the show-cause notice, terming it “unsatisfactory”.

According to a local news outlet, Adviser to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan disclosed that the premier had directed to take “strict legal action against the unconscionable MNAs”.

He maintained that the constitution demanded the lawmakers to fulfill the basic condition of honesty and trust.

On March 19, the ruling party served show-cause notices to the 14 dissident lawmakers for purportedly joining forces with the opposition in the no-confidence motion against PM Khan. They were given seven days to present themselves before the premier.
