The PTI has decided to appeal to the Supreme Court for the confirmation of the resignations of its MNAs after National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf allegedly purposefully delayed the procedure.

According to local media reports, the party’s legal team has begun preparing for the case because they think the speaker was purposefully delaying action on the matter.

The speaker had abruptly adjourned the assembly’s session when the PTI stated that its MNAs would return to present their resignations.

Media reports suggest that Ashraf took a leave of absence after the party’s MNAs declared that they would come before the speaker to have their resignations validated.

President Dr. Arif Alvi called a session of the National Assembly on Thursday (today) according to Article 54 (1) of the Constitution.

The PTI MNAs decided to personally appear before the NA speaker on Thursday to authenticate their resignations, which have been pending for several months despite repeated demands from the party leadership to accept them.

Former NA deputy speaker Qasim Suri accepted the resignations of 123 PTI MNAs before resigning from his position on April 13

Later that month, after taking the oath of office, Ashraf instructed the assembly secretariat to handle the resignations of the PTI MNAs again and give them to him so that they could be handled legally.
