Punjab Assembly condemns attack on Imran

The House echoed with the slogans of Imran Khan as the PTI-led Punjab Assembly on Friday passed a resolution condemning the assassination attempt on the former Prime Minister.

The resolution demanded an impartial judicial commission while also seeking action against three names given by Imran Khan as the main culprits behind the ‘attack’. A large number of MPAs hailing from PTI said that the state institutions must send a good message and everyone should respect each other’s mandate. According to the details, the special session of the Punjab Assembly was convened by Speaker Sibtain Khan right after the news of attack on Imran Khan’s container went viral yesterday.

The session was actually called to condemn the murder attempt on Chairman PTI and to show the anger over the tragic incident. On Friday, the session started after the delay of more than three hours from its scheduled time. At the outset of the session, the resolution having signatures of over a dozen PTI lawmakers was brought out-of-turn. The PML-N led opposition MPAs tried to disrupt the resolution but they were literally snubbed by PTI’s lawmakers. “Such a blatant assassination attempt on Imran Khan is a question mark over the performance of state’s security institutions,” said the resolution read by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Raja Basharat.

The House also demanded to take stern action against those people who were named by Imran Khan. However, the resolution avoided naming those three people. The House demanded the formation of judicial commission while condemning giving the religious touch to the incident. The resolution was passed amid huge sloganeering in favour of Imran Khan by the treasury benches. The opposition benches were presenting a deserted look as less than a dozen MPAs of PML-N were sitting there. Later, they also staged a walkout for not getting the floor to speak.

Later, fiery and emotional speeches were delivered by the PTI MPAs who condemned the attack on Imran Khan while also urging the state’s institutions to respect the mandate of the people. Speaking on the floor of the House, former minister Syed Samsam Bukhari said that the culprits of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto couldn’t be arrested but he has a feeling that this incident will reach a conclusion. “I am having a very strong feeling that the original masterminds of this incident will be reached out soon,” said Samsam Bukhari. He also termed the attack on Imran Khan as an attack on the whole Muslim Ummah. “There are only two leaders who are heroes of Muslims. The one is Erdogan and the other is Imran Khan and therefore the foreign forces are scared of them,” he added. In his speech, PTI’s Major Retired Sarwar said that ISI is the best agency in the world but it should not waste this respect earned after giving numerous sacrifices. He also urged the officials to stand with the truth at this time to avoid any further negative impressions being built in the public. He also urged Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa to leave a positive message for the upcoming generations as he is going to retire soon. The public response will be worst if something happens to Imran Khan, the retired Major and now an MPA warned. PTI’s Yawar Bukhari, Zaheer Khokhar, Neelam Heyat, Feyaz Chohan, Sadia Sohail Rana and some other MPAs also spoke. The session was later adjourned till 21st November at 3 pm.
