Punjab Assembly session adjourned till April 6

After the ruling of the Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Qasim Suri in which he dismissed the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan and adjourned the session for an indefinite period, the Punjab Assembly session has also been adjourned till April 6 (Wednesday).

Earlier, the opposition members reached the Punjab Assembly and PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz also spoke to the media, showing their enthusiasm for selecting the new chief minister of the province after Buzdar resigned.

The session only lasted for six minutes following which the decision was made; however, the party members got into a heated argument.

Hamza Shehbaz who is the candidate from the opposition and Pervaiz Elahi who was the candidate from the government, both need at least 186 votes in the House of 371 to win the poll for the slot of CM Punjab.

Just minutes before the crucial session of the Punjab Assembly was set to take place, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf named a new governor of Punjab. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that party worker Omar Sarfaraz Cheema will be the new governor of Punjab.

Earlier, he tweeted that the federal government had removed Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar from his post. The information minister did not elaborate on this move, but said that the deputy speaker would be the acting governor.

In another development, senior journalist Hamid Mir tweeted that he spoke to Chauhdry Sarwar who disclosed that the PM office was forcing him to do unconstitutional things to which he apparently refused.

“He said Fed Govt wanted me to delay today’s session of the Punjab Assembly when he resisted they sacked him on the demand of Ch Pervez Elahi,” said the tweet.
