Meanwhile, Additional Attorney-General of Punjab Akhtar Javaid has been given the additional duty of the advocate general momentarily. He will perform his additional duties till the new advocate general is appointed.

Awais is a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court and has earlier also served on the position of advocate-general in Punjab from 2018 to 2019.

He had tendered his resignation after contempt proceedings were started against him by a Lahore High Court bench as it heard the case of the Model Town incident.

Awais was once again appointed to the post in 2020. He has also served as the Lahore High Court Bar Association president.
