Punjab’s minister for primary and secondary healthcare Dr. Jamal Nasir, has initiated the hiring process for 374 Women Medical Officers (WMO) in collaboration with the Punjab Public Service Commission. This initiative aims to strengthen healthcare services in remote and underprivileged regions within the province.

During a recent meeting, Minister Nasir disclosed that the recruitment of WMOs had received approval from chief minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi. These medical officers will be assigned to Basic Health Units, Rural Health Centers, and Tehsil headquarters hospitals, with a particular focus on providing high-quality healthcare services to women in marginalized areas.

Qualified female candidates who aspire to fill these roles can submit their applications electronically through the Punjab Public Service Commission. The application deadline has been set for September 29, 2023. Minister Nasir stressed that the recruitment process would strictly adhere to merit-based selection, ensuring a transparent and impartial procedure devoid of any undue influence.

A joint research effort conducted by Gallup Pakistan and PRIDE across the country uncovered a concerning statistic: approximately 35 percent of female medical doctors in Pakistan are unemployed.
