Qasim Suri registers FIR following attack at Islamabad eatery

Suri alleges about 15 to 20 men shouted slogans and attacked him and his guests at an Islamabad eatery around midnight

Former National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri has registered an FIR in pursuit of action against a group of unidentified men who he said had assaulted him and his companions as they had sehri at an eatery in Islamabad’s Kohsar Market early Friday morning.

Videos circulating on social media showed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ejaz Chaudhry present at the location when the incident took place. He could be seen sitting beside Suri and standing as soon as the men raising slogans of “PTI murdabad” entered the restaurant. The unidentified men were then seen attacking Suri and Senator Ejaz.

Suri has reached out to the Kohsar station house officer, describing the incident and asking for justice. In his application, he said that about 15 to 20 men arrived at the spot around midnight and began shouting slogans. Suri alleged the men assaulted him and his companions with rods, claiming that they wanted to kill them.

A first information report was later registered on Suri’s request under Sections 148, 149 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code. No individuals were nominated in the FIR.
