Quetta court approves police’s request for Hassaan Niazi’s transitory detention

Former prime minister Imran Khan’s nephew Lawyer Hassaan Khan Niazi was turned over to Punjab police on a seven-day transitory detention on Sunday by a judicial magistrate’s court in Quetta.

Hasan Niazi was the subject of an attempted murder charge filed against him at the Race Course police station in Lahore, and the Punjab police had traveled to Quetta to take him into prison.

Niazi was detained by the Quetta police late on Saturday under Section 3 of the MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) after being granted bail.

He had been arrested for pelting objects at police personnel and causing mayhem close to the courthouse in G-11, Islamabad.

The PTI leader was taken into custody by Punjab police after being summoned to the judge’s chambers during a hearing at the judicial magistrate’s court in Quetta today. Punjab police had requested his temporary remand so they could bring him to a Lahore court.

The Punjab Home Department wrote to the Balochistan administration to request that it take him to jail following Niazi’s arrest last night.

According to the letter, Niazi had been detained in connection with a murder attempt case that had been reported to the Race Course Police Station in Lahore.

Niazi while speaking to journalists in district kachehri stated that Punjab is his home and that it doesn’t matter where the police take him

He said, “I don’t know why I was imprisoned under three MPO after the release order, but this too shall pass.”

Niazi praised the PTI leader for organizing a “successful” public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan a day earlier and noted that the attendees of the jalsa once again demonstrated Imran Khan’s popularity as a leader.
