Rashid Khan lauds Afghanistan’s first T20I victory against Pakistan

Afghanistan cricket team captain Rashid Khan has praised the team’s first T20 triumph against Pakistan but said that the front-line hitters must develop before the 50-over World Cup in India later in the year.

Rashid and his team defeated a young Pakistan team with six wickets in the inaugural T20 International played in Sharjah on Friday.

Mohammad Nabi scored an unbeaten 38 in the low-scoring match to go along with his two wickets with the ball, and they were able to limit the Pakistani team, captained by Shadab Khan, to 92-9 and chase down the mark with 13 balls remaining.

Rashid remarked after the victory, “It’s a delight to win as we’ve always lost against them, sometimes by narrow margins.

“We’re happy with the victory and aim to keep up the momentum.”

The top order has to play well in the current three-match series, according to Rashid, and keep up this form through the ODI World Cup in October-November.

Rashid stated that “we need to improve not just for this series but as we approach the World Cup.”

“We must now work hard, day by day and game by game, so that at the end of the year when we attempt to qualify for the World Cup, we will have a fully prepared squad.”
