Recovery of three Mastung missing persons demanded

Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) Chairman Nasrullah Baloch on Saturday handed over the details of three missing persons to Advisor to the Balochistan Chief Minister on Home and Tribal Affairs Mir Zia Langove.

Baloch said that the families of Bilal Ahmed, Mohammad Ishaque and Sher Mohammad visited him and complained that their sons were whisked away from their houses in the Wali Abad area of Mastung during a search operation on December 29, and shifted to an unknown location.

He added that the government and law enforcement agencies were not telling about the whereabouts of the three persons.

Baloch went on to say that he contacted Langove on the matter and handed the details of the three missing persons to him. “Langove ensured us of playing his role in their safe release,” said Baloch.

“As he [Langove] has played his role in the recovery of other missing persons in the past, we hope that he will ensure an early release of Bilal Ahmed, Mohammad Ishaque and Sher Mohammad,” the chairman said in a statement.

It should be remembered that the issue of missing persons is a major problem countrywide, especially in Balochistan. Recently, a bill seeking to criminalize enforced disappearance was introduced in the National Assembly.

However, a report published by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) had voiced concern over the bill. “If passed, this law would undoubtedly lead to an increased underreporting of the crime and foster impunity for the perpetrators,” UN experts said.
