Relentless attacks on Palestine

Palestine is under attack. In fact, it is under Israeli attack round the clock. It is the world which occasionally turns to the death and destruction of the besieged and occupied territory while giving a free hand to the Israeli state to kill and maim Palestinian men, women and children at will. The recent spell of deadly attacks on Palestinians in Gaza has claimed 29 lives in the last three days, while no Western country has so far come up with their traditional lip-service condemnation of the Israeli brutality. The Israelis, now and then, manufacture a pretext to attack Gaza and West Bank and other occupied territories. This time, it first killed a senior commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader, and later on started bombing the residential areas of Gaza, after rockets were allegedly fired. The Zionist state says it has launched a “pre-emptive” operation against the group to stop its planned attack. As bombs are blind to targets, according to the updated count from health authorities in the Hamas-run territory of Gaza, six children have been killed and 204 people injured in the Israeli aggression. The way attacks are ongoing, more children and innocent people will be killed in the coming days, while the world will keep standing as a bystander.  By Israel’s own account, its aerial and artillery drive may last a week. Ironically, the world calls the Israeli aggression against occupied Palestinian a clash between two equal forces, which gives credence to Israeli actions.

The Islamic countries which recently normalised their diplomatic relations with Israel have chosen to look to the other side. Only Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is trying to fetch a ceasefire by engaging “both sides to ease the violence”. Pakistan is among those few countries which condemned the airstrikes by Israel on Gaza. The Foreign Office called the latest spate of aggression “typical of the Israeli atrocities, illegal actions and indiscriminate use of force against innocent Palestinians over the decades in complete defiance of international human rights and humanitarian laws”. But Pakistan has little influence in the international world. Arab countries do have oil power which gives them influence in the world. They act as bystanders most of the time. The Foreign Office called upon the international community to urge Israel to put an immediate end to the “blatant use of force and flagrant violations of human rights”. Israel has blocked supplies to Gaza, crippling the routine life in the strip. Residents get only four hours of electricity a day after the only power station in the territory ran short of fuel in the wake of the blockade. This is high time the world sprang into action and stopped the Israeli onslaught on Palestinians. Moreover, the Arab countries, which have normalized their diplomatic ties with Israel, must reconsider their ties and warn Israel against attacking Palestine. Recently, US President Joe Biden visited both Israel and Saudi Arabia, but he remained short of calling for the creation of two states to end the decades-long occupation of Palestine.
