On December 23, 2000, music got poorer in this mortal world with the passing of Malika-e-Tarranum (Melody Queen), Madam Noor Jehan. She left as royally as she lived. Twenty years on, singers do not get tired of singing from her repertoire and audiences do not get tired of requesting more of Madam Noor Jehan’s songs and ghazals.
Years ago, she prophetically sang the line
Gaaye gi duniya geet mere
The world will sing my songs
And yes, the duniya (world) continues singing Madam Noor Jehan ever since with the same fire and passion. Her songs light up any musical night. There is not and there will not be any other Noor Jehan reigning the world of music with an unbeatable aura. Her legacy is the love and music that connects us all.
