The first anniversary of father figure of the Hurriyat movement of the Kashmiris, Syed Ali Geelani, went unnoticed at the public level in Pakistan, mainly due to the government’s extra commitment to the flood-stricken areas. Several sections of the public in Pakistan and abroad, which are committed to the resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the vision of the Syed Ali Geelani, however, renewed their pledge to continue support to the Kashmiris. The death anniversary of the Kashmiri leader, who died in house arrest in Sri Nagar, was marked with the determination that the mission of the leader of Kashmir will continue till the achievement of the goal. To pay homage to the martyr of Kashmir, people started events to mark the life and struggle of Syed Geelani for a week and rallies was also taken out in several cities in India-held Kashmir. The Indian government tried to stop the rallies and martyred two youths in Shopian.
When we look back, it can be said the death of Syed Ali Geelani affected the movement of the Kashmiris. Syed Ali Geelani was a strong voice against Indian illegal occupation and a great bearer of the right to self-determination, who strongly advocated the accession of Kashmir to Pakistan and did not allow himself or the Kashmiri people to succumb to any tactics of Indian oppression. His slogan “We are Pakistanis and Pakistan is ours” echoes even today in the Kashmir valley. Indian atrocities continue in the occupied valley even today. Despite terrorism by the Indian Army, the first anniversary of Ali Geelani was marked in India-held Kashmir with the determination that the mission of Syed Ali Geelani will continue until the achievement of the destination. Pakistan continues its full support to the mission of the Kashmiris and the Hurriyat Conference at every forum. It is time the world took notice of the Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir. There was be a complete strike in the valley on Tuesday, which is proof that the Kashmiri people will not back down from their principled stand in any way and will not bow down to Indian atrocities and its black law.
