Report of Sialkot incident will surface within 48 hours: Punjab govt

Fifty accused have so far been apprehended: SACM Hasaan Khawar

Special Assistant to Chief Minister (SACM) and Punjab Government Spokesman Hasaan Khawar has strongly condemned the tragic incident of Sialkot and said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar had directed that a high level inquiry be conducted about this ‘awful’ incident.

While speaking to media today at the Director General Public Relations (DGPR) office, along with Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, SACM Hasaan Khawer said that the report of this inquiry would surface within 48 hours and ensured immediate action against all the accused involved in this ‘heinous act’.

He further disclosed that 50 accused had been apprehended so far, while rest of the accused were being identified with the help of CCTV footage and NADRA.

“Government is investigating the incident from all aspects. The first Police party reached the spot about 20 minutes after receiving the first call on 15. However, the government would take strong and immediate action even if there was any delay or negligence in response from the police,” said Khawar.

Regional Police officer and commissioner of Gujranwala Division were present at the scene of the crime.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar was also present on this occasion. He said that Islam was the torchbearer of peace, tolerance, and brotherhood.

No society in the world, including Pakistan, would allow such an inhuman act, he added.

Meanwhile, Maulana Tahir Ashrafi said that ulema from all schools of thought had strongly condemned this tragic incident.

He further stated that this abominable incident had brought shame to the whole country.
