Rescue efforts underway for girl suspected to have drowned at Seaview

A search for a 23-year-old woman who authorities believe drowned at Karachi’s Seaview was underway on Saturday (today).

South Senior Superintendent of Police, Syed Asad Raza stated that rescue teams had been sent out to look for the girl who had been reported drowned.

She has been identified by the police as Sara Malik, a local of Azam Basti in the Mehmoodabad district of the city.

A crew from Edhi Naval Services was searching for the woman as part of a rescue effort with the use of boats, according to a statement from the Edhi Foundation.

A purse with what appears to be the woman’s belongings is visible in police photos of the scene. Other images show at least two police mobile units and an Edhi ambulance.

Four persons perished in drowning at Karachi’s Hawke’s Bay beach in July. During heavy rains a month later, a car carrying a family of six swept away along the city’s Malir River.
