Reshuffling in Punjab police high command creates friction between CM and IGP

Reshuffling in the high command of Punjab Police has created friction between the chief minister of Punjab and the inspector general of police (IGP).

Another reshuffle has been made in the police command in Punjab including district police officers (DPOs).

According to reports, there has been friction between the chief minister and the IGP Punjab regarding the transfers and postings of senior police officers in the province.

However, it has been reported that IGP has transferred at least 12 senior police officers including two DPOs. The IGP has issued transfer orders of Okara’s and Sialkot’s DPOs on the previous day (Friday).

Battalion Commander PC Rawalpindi, SSP Muhammad Faisal, has been appointed as DPO Sialkot.

The police command has been shuffled swiftly after the new chief minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, took reign after almost 15 years.

City chief police officer (CCPO) Lahore, deputy inspector general (DIG) operations and investigations Lahore, chief police officer (CPO) Gujranwala and other senior officers have been transferred.

Few regional police officers (RPOs) have also been changed. Media reports have also stated that the change of command was to be made to almost all the RPOs and most of the DPOs.

Interviews of many senior police officers including two women officers have been conducted over the past couple of days. The interviews were conducted for the posts of DPOs and RPOs.
