Revenge attacks on rise in Faisalabad courts

Faisalabad police has failed to provide foolproof security at court premises and courts across the district, which has led to daily attacks on the accused and other citizens appearing in the courts and in their vicinities by their opponents.

Accused Saeed, who was appearing in the Sessions Court of Samundari Tehsil of Faisalabad yesterday, was killed by an armed youth who escaped despite the deployment of police.

According to the police report, Saeed Aslam, a resident of Chak No. 175 GB, who was involved in the murder case, was brought along with his brother to the court premises for trial. Opponents allegedly shot dead the detainee while the detainee’s brother watched helplessly as his brother died. The assailant escaped from the court premises despite being deployed by the police. A case of murder has been registered in Tehsil Samundari Kachehri in which Kabir Hussain has taken a stand that his nephew Saeed Aslam was brought to appear before the court who was shot in the neck by the accused Bhola ‘the cyclist’, who escaped with his companion.

Hundreds of murder and property disputes are pending in Faisalabad District and Tehsil Courts and on a daily basis many accused are brought before the courts and the entire responsibility for their security lies with the police authorities but they have failed miserably. As a result, five people have been killed and several others injured in the first four and a half months of this year. But Faisalabad police, civil defense and other concerned agencies are not implementing any better plan as usual, and every incident is followed by only one or two days of strictness.

The High Court has issued clear instructions to the police administration and concerned agencies to make foolproof security arrangements in the courts and court premises. It has also directed that the plan drawn up for this should be implemented and monitored by the concerned district head of police. Similarly, instructions have been issued to check the plan for some time and if any error or defect is found, it should be rectified immediately.

According to a report, so far this year, there have been more than five incidents of killing of accused and civilians in the court premises. The accused, which was produced before the court in a murder case registered at Ghulam Muhammadabad police station in early January 2022, was murdered by his nephew. Similarly, a citizen who appeared in the courts in the area of City Jaranwala Police Station was shot dead by the accused.

In this regard, the police spokesperson said that the security plan in the courts was being fully implemented by the district police and departmental action would be taken against anyone who showed negligence.
