The weekend has been that of immense pride for Pakistanis, for two artists belonging to Pakistan, who had already garnered international recognition for themselves, reached even newer heights of success.
Riz Ahmed bagged an Oscar award for his acting in ‘The Long Goodbye’ which he also co-wrote. The young actor was also nominated in the Oscars last year for his role of a drummer in ‘Sound of Metal’, but lost to Anthony Hopkins. This year, however, the actor succeeded in winning one, making millions of fans all over the globe proud, specifically those in Pakistan owing to his Pakistani heritage.
Moreover, US-based Pakistani artist Arooj Aftab also made Pakistanis extremely happy. Arooj Aftab also happens to be a two-time Grammy nominee. This weekend, the artist got featured on a billboard in Times Square, New York as Spotify’s ‘Artist of the Month’. The singer was found posting the photo of the billboard on her Instagram, with a caption that said, “All day, today, on rotation, at every New Yorker’s favourite hang, Times Square. Thank you Spotify Pakistan, this is definitely epic.”
