Tennis legend Roger Federer praises Novak Djokovic for his “incredible effort” after he won the 10th Australian Open and a record-tying 22nd Grand Slam title on Sunday.

“Incredible effort, again! Many congratulations,” the legendary tennis player, who won 20 majors, wrote in a short message on Instagram.

Djokovic overcame Stefanos Tsitsipas ahead of the Australian Open final in straight sets to add another championship to his collection that already includes two from the French Open, three from the US Open, and seven from Wimbledon.

He is now on par with Rafael Nadal in terms of his total of 22 Grand Slam victories.

Nadal, the defending champion in Melbourne, was a year older than Djokovic, who is 35.

Nadal could miss up to eight weeks of play after being eliminated in the second round with a hip issue.

Federer, the former world number one, announced his retirement last year at the age of 41 after failing to recover from a knee ailment.
