Roy’s blistering ton leads Gladiators to victory

Quetta Gladiators defeated Lahore Qalandars by 7 wickets in the final match of the first phase of HBL Pakistan Super League 7 played at National Stadium Karachi. Jason Roy was named Player of the Match for scoring a magnificent century.

In pursuit of 205 runs, Quetta Gladiators opener Jason Roy took an aggressive approach as soon as he took the crease and put pressure on the bowling attack consisting of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Zaman Khan, Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan with powerful shots all around the field. Jason Roy, who scored a half-century off 20 balls, played an electrifying innings of 116 off 57 balls. His innings included 8 sixes and 11 fours.

He shared 71 and 96 runs for the first and second wickets with Ahsan Ali and James Vince respectively. Ahsan Ali was dismissed for 7 runs.

However, James Vince continued to score from the other end and played an unbeaten innings of 49 off 38 balls with the help of five fours to give Quetta Gladiators their second victory of the tournament. Meanwhile, Muhammad Nawaz scored 25 not out with the help of a four and two sixes.

Earlier, batting first at the invitation of Sarfraz Ahmed, Lahore Qalandars scored 204 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. The opening pair of Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafiq once again gave their team a strong start with 61 run opening stand.

Fakhr Zaman, who played an innings of 70 off 45 balls with three sixes and three fours, shared a 40-run stand with Kamran Ghulam for the second wicket. Abdullah Shafiq (32) and Kamran Ghulam (19) were all out.

On this occasion, Harry Brook and David Wise took the command of Lahore Qalandars and scored 78 runs in the last five overs to take the team’s score to over 200. Harry Brook played an unbeaten innings of 41 off 17 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes. David Visay remained unbeaten on 22 runs.
