Supreme Court of Pakistan has rejected the JIT government established to probe the death of journalist Arshad Sharif after a few hours of formation.

The Court ordered the formation of a new independent body to investigate the death of the journalist.

Chief Justice Umar Bandial stated that the Federal government should immediately form a new investigation team. The court wants an independent team to investigate the issue.

“The court does not want any members to have relationships with any powerful person,” the CJP continued.

Following the registration of the initial information report on the court’s direction, the government earlier today created a five-member JIT to investigate Sharif’s assassination.

The JIT was established by the IG Islamabad today to look into the murder of Arshad Sharif, and the DIG headquarters was selected as the JIT’s chairman.

Renowned Pakistani journalist and broadcaster Arshad Sharif was fatally shot in Kenya in October and Kenyan police labelled the incident as a mistaken identity case.
