School turned into drug den in Kech

The Danchupdan Primary School in Nasirabad area of Kech, Balochistan, has been occupied by drug addicts, as the building was ruined by floods in 2007.

A spokesperson for Youth Educational Council (YEC) said that the primary school of Danchupdan area of Nasirabad was destroyed by heavy floods, which affected the entire Makran division back in 2007. As a result of the same floods, the primary school of the area collapsed and its building vanished, he said. “The area was not safe to live after the floods, which resulted in migration of the people,” he added.

After some years, when things got back to normalcy, the government announced funds for repairing the school, but they did not investigate fully about the village, which ended in the school becoming a “house of drug addicts” of the town, he said. He added that students stopped going to the school because of the presence of drug addicts.

The spokesperson further said that a YEC team visited the school and met the headmaster, who remarked that due to the broken doors and no boundary, the drug addicts easily entered the school and destroyed the entire setup of the classrooms. The spokesperson said that when asked about the announced reparation by the government, the principal stated that each time the school was repaired, the next day it suffered from damage caused by the drug addicts.

“The only solution is shifting the school to an area near the population,” the spokesperson quoted the headmaster as saying. He said the population in the area shifted, but students yet found the area more comfortable because of full classes. Because of a high number of students in classes, many students stopped going to school, which was a grave concern for the government of Balochistan, he added.
