Foolproof security arrangements have been made for England and Pakistan cricket teams after they arrived in Lahore on Monday to play T20I matches at Gaddafi Stadium. The teams landed at Lahore airport through a special flight and were brought to a local hotel at Mall road amid tight security arrangements. Traffic from the signal in front of Punjab Governor House was diverted to other adjoining roads due to security reasons and a large number of police contingents were deployed in and outside the hotel where the English squad was staying and on the routes from hotel to the stadium. Both the teams are slated to play practice games on Tuesday, September 27, and the final three games at Gaddafi Stadium on September 28, September 30, and October 2. Earlier, Inspector General Police Punjab Faisal Shahkar said state guest security was being provided to England players, ICC officials, and other foreign staff during their stay in Lahore. The police chief said that more than 8,000 officers and personnel were performing their security duties during the Pakistan England series’ last three T20 matches to be played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. The IGP directed the police officers for foolproof security and traffic management arrangements during the series while 24-hour monitoring of teams’ routes, hotels, and Gaddafi Stadium inside and outside would be done by safe city cameras.

He directed the Special Branch and CTD to take special measures for the peaceful conduct of the cricket series. He gave a special task to CTO Lahore to maintain the uninterrupted flow of traffic during the matches and said that additional wardens and personnel should be appointed to maintain the flow of traffic. Faisal Shahkar directed that best arrangements be ensured with the district administration for the parking of cricket fans and transportation to the stadium.
