Senators say employment of retired persons injustice with youth, seek details of army officers employed in NADRA

Lawmakers say such hiring occurring despite rise in unemployment and shortage of jobs for fresh graduates

A debate broke out in the Senate regarding the staffing of personnel belonging to the armed forces in the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), with the opposition members demanding explicit details.

Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said he didn’t receive a satisfactory answer when he inquired about the number of people delegated in NADRA and the number of retired armed personnel working in the institution.

Ahmed claimed that a large number of retired armed forces personnel had been employed in NADRA despite a rise in unemployment and a shortage of jobs for fresh graduates.

The senator added that giving these jobs with great perks to personnel who are of retirement age was a great injustice with the youth of the country. Ahmed reiterated his question that he be informed regarding the number of retired armed personnel working in NADRA and their positions.

In a reply, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Muhammad Khan informed him that six people had been working on deputation and were not retired armed personnel.

Senator from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Azam Nazeer Tarar inquired about the precise facts regarding the number of retired armed personnel working in NADRA. He further asked about the responsibilities and qualifications of these personnel when they were hired.

Minister Ali Muhammad Khan replied that the inquiry would be given a detailed response later, but concluded that the people employed were done so according to their job specification.
