Shaheen Shah Afridi, a quick Pakistani pacer, is the 19th member of the Green Shirts to have taken 100 Test wickets overall.

The bowler accomplished this during Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka, when he removed Nishan Madushka from the field in the second over of the opening Test in Galle.

On Sunday’s opening day of the first Test at the ICC World Test Championship 2023–25, the speedster made his return to Test cricket officially.

This was the beginning of the action-packed 2023–24 international cricket season for the home team.

Shaheen had not played for his country in almost a year after suffering a knee injury in the first of two Test matches at Galle in 2017.

The seamer spoke to PCB Digital in Hambantota on Thursday before bowling in the two-day warm-up match against the hosts at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium. “I am very excited to be making my Test comeback in the country where I was injured,” the player said.

He hadn’t played a first-class match since the fourth morning of the first Test at Galle, when he fell awkwardly at the boundary while attempting to stop the ball, necessitating a gradual and systematic return due to the severity of the injury.
