Shahid Kapoor’s on-set habits are making headlines again, this time courtesy of the production team behind Cocktail 2, who have shed light on a particular demand the actor made during the film’s shooting schedule in Delhi.
Line producer Sumit Tyagi, speaking on The Shivam Podcast, revealed that Shahid refused to step outside his van to film outdoors unless air purifiers were brought to the set. The request came amid concerns over Delhi’s notoriously poor air quality index, and the production team ultimately arranged five to six air purifiers in an attempt to accommodate him.
Tyagi described the situation with a mixture of amusement and pragmatism. “Shahid had said that I won’t get out of the van,” he recalled. “He would just take off the mask before the shot; otherwise, he had a mask on the entire time.” The shoot was taking place at Cyber City in Gurugram, an outdoor location, which made the air purifier solution somewhat impractical by definition. As Tyagi himself acknowledged, an air purifier designed for indoor use was never going to make a meaningful difference in an open outdoor environment. “How can an air purifier help there? It is all open,” he said.
Despite the logistical limitations, Tyagi was careful not to frame the demand as unreasonable. He said the production team tried their best to meet the actor’s requirements, and that the concern for air quality was understandable given the conditions in the city. “So you don’t get hurt that your demands have not been met and production has tried its best,” he said, suggesting a diplomatic handling of what could have been a more difficult situation on set.
Tyagi also used the word “manmauji,” meaning free-spirited or unpredictable, to describe Shahid’s approach on set, adding that the actor operates on a principle of minimal investment in others’ perceptions. He characterised him as someone who believes he will not overthink others and expects the same in return.
This is not the first time Shahid Kapoor’s on-set behaviour has attracted attention. His former co-star Kiara Advani previously shared on Koffee With Karan that she had once waited eight hours on set because Shahid was deliberating over which shoes his character should wear for the next scene. Together, the two anecdotes paint a picture of an actor who approaches his work with considerable attention to detail and personal comfort, even when the practicalities of production make that a challenge.
Cocktail 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 film Cocktail and stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. The film was shot across multiple locations, including Sicily and Delhi, and is currently showing in cinemas.
