Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need to address the actions taken against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), to resolve the current crises in the country. In a detailed statement on Twitter, the Prime Minister stated that he has believed from the beginning that Nawaz Sharif was falsely implicated in the Panama Papers scandal as part of a plan to remove him from politics and overthrow his government.

Referring to recent revelations by the senior lawyer of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Hamid Khan, the Prime Minister asserted that Nawaz’s disqualification had been decided beforehand and the Supreme Court’s decision was merely used as legal cover. Shehbaz Sharif described these revelations as crucial, as they gradually unveil the truth. He claimed that the prevailing crises in the country originated from a conspiracy to topple Nawaz’s government and bring Imran Khan, the Chairman of the PTI, to power at any cost.

The Prime Minister highlighted the detrimental impact of this conspiracy on Pakistan, including substantial losses, hindered democratic progress, and a severely affected economy. He stressed the importance of rectifying the actions taken against Nawaz Sharif to improve the situation. Shehbaz Sharif expressed pride in his leader, who he believes is on the right side of history and is being vindicated.

Nawaz Sharif was previously disqualified for life by the Supreme Court in 2017 on grounds of dishonesty under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, before facing convictions in assets beyond means cases. The PML-N has consistently contended that Nawaz’s disqualification was unjust. Hamid Khan’s revelation, made on a television program, is significant as his party, led by Imran Khan, played a pivotal role in the disqualification of the former Prime Minister.
