Awami Muslim League (AML) head Sheikh Rashid condemned the police raid on PTI politician and a former chief minister of Punjab Parvez Elahi on Saturday, calling it fascist and irresponsible conduct.
The former interior minister tweeted that Chaudhry Salik Hussain, a member of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet, should resign and that PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain should denounce it. He said that confronting two brothers was part of a political plot.
He said that the issue of Pakistan’s loans was not on the IMF’s agenda for its meeting on May 10 and claimed that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had failed to revitalize the economy, noting that the poor were having difficulty making ends meet.
Regarding the ongoing negotiations between the government and the PTI, he said that while success would be great, “it does not seem to be happening.”
He pleaded for the supremacy of the law and the Constitution and bemoaned the unwillingness of the ruling coalition to dissolve the government.
The authorities, according to Sheikh Rashid, intended to undertake another raid at his residence in Rawalpindi, Lal Haveli. He wrote, “I have won the ownership dispute at the supreme court.”
He issued a warning, saying, “I will not be responsible for any damages if an action is carried out at Lal Haveli in the dead of night,” and added that he would defend such activities using his legal and constitutional rights.
