Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator and Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman has reacted to President Arif Alvi sending the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023 back to parliament for review.

Sherry Rehman said that the President Arif Alvi should not be lecture the parliament on legislation.

On the social media platform Twitter, Sherry Rehman stated that the President sent the bill back for review and demonstrated that he was actually the Secretary General of the PTI rather than the President.

She said that the President Alvi had previously stated his position on the bill in an interview before receiving it, and that he was acting in accordance with party ideology rather than his constitutional duties by asserting that this law is outside the purview of parliament.

The PPP Senator questioned how President Arif Alvi could be aware of the powers of parliament given that he operated the Presidency for three and a half years like an ordinance factory.

The President of Pakistan has sent the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023 back to parliament for review under Article 75 of the Constitution. The bill was sent to the President for final approval after the federal cabinet, parliament and senate of Pakistan.
