Former federal minister Shireen Mazari has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to strike down Section 124A of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with the charge of sedition.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah will hear this appeal by the former minister on Friday.
The IGPs of the four provinces, including Islamabad, and the chief secretary were named as respondents in the plea submitted through Barrister Abuzar Salman Khan Niazi, who claimed that section 124A was being utilized to stifle free speech.
It went on to say that section 124A was against the Constitution’s core and fundamental rights and that sedition proceedings were created to stifle free speech and criticism.
Additionally, the appellant asked the court to halt the filing of sedition proceedings and order stays in such cases.
