Shujaat defends decision to support unity government

Rejects brother’s allegations as baseless

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Saturday rejected the allegations leveled by Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain as rubbish in a tweet posted on social media site hours after the latter’s speech in his native city Gujrat.

Responding to his younger brother’s accusations that Salik Hussain (the nephew of Wajahat and son of Ch Shujaat) sought dollars from Asif Ali Zardari for extending support to the incumbent government, the former prime minister said it was his decision to make an alliance with the PDM and the PPP government and he himself gave commitment to the co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party in this regard.

“I will answer all the questions in front of the people in Gujrat,” said the PML-Q chief, adding his brother had no say in Gujrat politics.

“It was my decision to support the unanimous candidate of the opposition [Shehbaz Sharif]. I did not ask for any ministry or any other favour in reward. Asif Ali Zardari himself came and congratulated us.”

He said he asked his son Salik (the minister in Shehbaz cabinet) to remain silent on Wajahat’s allegations. As Wajahat announced forming new party and decided to split way from PML-Q, Shujaat said it will make no difference because hundreds of parties had already been formed in the country.

The former federal minister Wajahat while talking to the media along with his son Chaudhry Hussain Elahi also held responsible Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema for the division of Chaudhry family. Ch Shujaat declared the statement immoral and a pack of lies.

Meanwhile, Ch Wajahat said he tried for five months to reunite the family but Shujaat was taken hostage by his sons and they were spoiling political career of his elder brother (Shujaat). He also declared their old ally Imran Masood their candidate from PP-31 constituency of Gujrat, saying Salik never had anything to do with Gujrat politics.

Hussain Elahi, who along with his cousin Moonis Elahi, was the ally of PTI, also came down hard on the PML-N led government for registering cases against Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Moonis Elahi.
