Shutdown strike across country today over inflation, high electricity bills

As Jamaat-e-Islami demands a statewide shutdown due to exorbitant electricity rates, roads are closed in Karachi. There were delays in traffic on the national highway.

Jamaat-e-Islami had called for a nationwide strike today to protest against inflation and increase in electricity bills.

Shops and hotels on the national highway were closed while roads were closed in many places.

Traffic movement on the national highway has been suspended by burning tires, while the red bus service running from Gulshan-e-Hadid has also been suspended. Angry protesters pelted stones at the police and forced them to flee.

Political party workers reached Quaidabad Manzil pump while heavy traffic queued up at Dawood Chowrangi. Traffic was also stopped in Lasbela Patelpada by burning tires.

Protests are also being held against inflation in Orangi Town No. 5, protesters blocked the road for traffic and raised slogans against inflation.

Karachi Bar Association has called for a complete strike against rising inflation and rising electricity bills.

Sirajul Haq said that we have demanded the government to roll back the increase in the price of electricity.

He said that the people of South Punjab should come out of their homes on September 2, come out for the rights of their children, our only agenda is that the government should roll back the increase in electricity price.
