Sindh Govt forms committees to investigate murder of journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar

The Sindh government has established two committees to investigate the murder of prominent journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar.

One committee, led by DIG Tanweer Alam Odho, will look into the causes and motives behind the killing. Supporting Odho are SSP Sukkur Sanghar Malik, SSP Khairpur Ruhal Khoso, SP Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Abdul Qudoos Kalwar, and ASP Gambat Nauman Zafar will help Odho in the investigation.

Another committee, formed by the Sindh Home Department, includes officers from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence (MI), Intelligence Bureau, and law enforcement. This committee has a month to complete their probe and submit a detailed report.

During raids, police arrested two accused, Buxal Mahar and Babar, as per the FIR filed by Jan Mohammad Mahar’s brother Karamullah Mahar.

SSP Malik stated that three others who harbored the accused were also arrested during the ongoing crackdown.

A Soyem was held in Jan Mohammad Mahar’s hometown of Chak town in Shikarpur district, followed by a demonstration led by senior journalist Naimat Khuhro and attended by relatives, journalists, and civil society members, protesting the journalist’s brutal murder.
