Sindh Police bars officers from making media appearances without prior approval

In a major policy shift aimed at tightening control over public communications, the Sindh Police has introduced strict new media engagement guidelines. Under the fresh directives, all police personnel across the province are strictly barred from participating in any media briefings, interviews, or public discussions without obtaining formal, prior approval from the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police. The newly enacted instructions have been formally dispatched to all senior command levels, including Additional Inspectors General (AIGs), Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).

The comprehensive communication policy details specific administrative hurdles and procedural rules.

First, the policy mandates strict clearance protocols. Before participating in television programmes, radio shows, podcasts, press conferences, digital media streams, or any other public forums in an official capacity, officers must submit a formal request routed directly through their respective formation heads.

Second, the guidelines enforce strict agenda limits. Authorised officers are strictly forbidden from discussing topics outside the pre-approved agenda of their clearance.

Third, a rigorous information blackout is now in effect. The policy enforces an absolute ban on revealing sensitive details regarding ongoing criminal investigations, intelligence operations, and active field activities.

Finally, any violations of these communication protocols will be treated as serious misconduct, subjecting the errant officer to immediate departmental proceedings and potentially severe legal action.

The central leadership of the Sindh Police stated that these measures are crucial to streamline official public relations, protect confidential operational strategies, and prevent the unauthorised disclosure of sensitive security matters.
