Smuggled drugs worth Rs80mn seized at Torkham

Continuing a relentless anti-smuggling drive, Pakistan Customs (Federal Board of Revenue), Peshawar Collectorate of Appraisememt and Torkham Custom Station intercepted a truck from Afghanistan, which carried contraband drugs worth about Rs80 million.

The truck bearing registration number RIJ-9175 was coming from Afghanistan. The interception resulted in the recovery of 160 kilograms of foreign origin charas, 15.50 kilograms of opium and 6.5 kilograms of cocaine.

The narcotics were kept in the secret cavities of the truck specially made for the purpose. The vehicle along with recovered narcotics and arrested driver have been brought to Custom House, Peshawar. An FIR was lodged against the arrested driver and further investigations were underway.

It would be pertinent to mention that the FBR has been following a policy of zero tolerance against smuggling and thereby has increased vigilance and surveillance of cargo movement across the border.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has commended FBR for its successful anti-smuggling drive across Pakistan. Likewise, FBR Chairman/Secretary Revenue Division Dr.Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed has appreciated FBR Member Customs (Ops) Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, in ensuring zero tolerance against smuggling of all shades and grades. He further reiterated his unflinching resolve to fighting the menace of smuggling across the country in order to maximize tax compliance.
