The International Association of Women Police has recognized Sonia Shamroz Khan, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Battagram, by awarding her the Police Officer of the Year award in recognition of her outstanding efforts in preventing violence against women.
In an announcement made on Monday, it was revealed that Ms. Shamroz received this prestigious award during an event held in Auckland, New Zealand. Her recognition extends to her exemplary policing work and her tireless commitment to preventing violence against women.
Ms. Shamroz Khan has also held prominent positions such as DPO Chitral within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police force. She initiated complaint cells to address the issue of forced marriages of young girls.
Speaking to the press, the DPO of Battagram expressed her dedication to the female victims of gender-based violence and the diligent women police officers. She highlighted the significant contributions of women in law enforcement towards fostering peace in society. Additionally, she emphasized her approach of respecting cultural sensitivities in her work, which has led to increased reporting of cases related to women.
