SP traffic’s arrest ordered over lady constable’s murder

The killing of lady constable Iqra Nazir took a new turn when the inspector general of police (Islamabad) removed SP (Traffic) Arif Shah, who is allegedly involved in the killing of the 20-year-old, from his post and ordered his arrest.

The post-mortem report has been received by the investigation team and no sign of torture was found on Iqra’s body.

Blood samples and other evidence related to the murder have been sent to a forensic laboratory. It remains to be confirmed whether she was poisoned. An investigation will be carried out from the removed SP, Arif Shah. Police officials said that in the last three months, Arif and Iqra exchanged more than 900 calls. She went to Arif’s official residence from the police line on the day of her death.

According to police sources, SP Arif did not give any information about the death of Iqra. Her mobile phone and wallet were still missing. Further investigation into the death of the constable is underway under the supervision of DIG Operation Owais Ahmed.

Separately, two persons, including a woman, were killed in Chung and Raiwind areas of Lahore, police said on Friday. As per details, the husband shot dead his 40-year-old wife Naseem Bibi and fled the scene. According to the initial investigation, police said they were having some domestic issues. Police teams have been assigned to trace him.

In an unrelated incident, a man was injured in aerial firing and was rushed to the hospital where doctors confirmed his death. Police have registered both cases and initiated legal action.

Elsewhere, a widow was killed while praying at the grave of her late husband. Her 15-year-old daughter also got injured in the firing. According to details, the widow was killed during the Fateha Khawani at the grave after some unknown people came and opened fire.

Meanwhile, two dacoits were killed with one other injured during an alleged police encounter in two different areas of the Cantt division. The dacoits opened fire as soon as they saw the police party. Both the bodies were shifted to the morgue. During the second alleged police encounter, a dacoit, who snatched a motorcycle and fled from the Baghbanpura area, was arrested while his comrade was shot and injured.
