Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the PTI, met his party chief Imran Khan for a highly awaited meeting a day after his month-long incarceration was over.
The hour-long discussion came to a close without a formal announcement being made. Qureshi also departed the location without speaking to the reporters who had gathered outside the Zaman Park residence anxiously anticipating the information despite having promised a news conference following the meeting.
Only a photo of the meeting was published to the social media accounts of the normally tech-savvy PTI and its chairman.
The meeting was held in the midst of reports that Qureshi would likely take over the party in the event that Imran Khan was disqualified and would likely negotiate with the government and other influential parties to ensure the survival of the party.
According to reports, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Imran Khan exchanged harsh words during their meeting on Tuesday evening. The reports claimed that Qureshi, after the meeting, left for Karachi to attend to his ailing wife.
A very close ally of Qureshi in Multan has been quoted as saying, “Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi told the party chairman that he should temporarily withdraw, go abroad and if he does not go abroad, stay here but stop speaking. There are difficult times and wise decisions are needed rather than emotions.”
During the meeting, the two leaders also got acrimonious and exchanged harsh words.
It should be noted that Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s financier and supporter from the constituency from where he was elected member of the National Assembly had not yet been released.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi also told Imran Khan that those retired people who are misleading him can not help him in these circumstances, and Imran Khan expressed anger at Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
After the meeting, Shah Mehmood Qureshi left Zaman Park for Karachi without talking to the media.
Meanwhile, after exchanging bitter words in the meeting with Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Imran Khan addressed through video link and repeated most of the old things and said that these oppressors filed many cases against him, and our 10,000 people are in jail.
He also reiterated that he will fight till the end and will not back down, “I am going to Islamabad on Thursday, and I am ready for getting arrested again.”
