Officials of the Government School Teacher Association Sujawal wing and representatives of Sujawal Shaheri Itehad have deplored an attack on the Headmaster of Government High School Sujawal by four assailants after he had prevented them from consuming drugs at night within the school premises.
The attackers stormed his office on Thursday and attacked him with wooden rods and stones, leaving him critically injured. The watchmen deployed there tried to pose resistance but could not succeed.
The victim identified as Nisar Azam Umrani was rushed to Civil Hospital Sujawal from where doctors referred him to Jinnah Hospital Karachi following excessive bleeding and severity of wounds. GSTA Chairman Ghulam Qadir Bhagi told local reporters that like other districts of Sindh, teachers were also not safe in Sujawal.
Adding that in a similar kind of incident a few months ago the Headteacher of Baran Abad High School was left critically injured but no action was taken by the concerned authorities. “The society where a teacher is unsafe would never progress and prosper”; he bemoaned.
SHO Sujawal told local reporters that the incident was being probed from different angles and added that they had recorded statements of people present there at the time of the incident.
Officials of GSTA on the other hand urged Chief Minister Sindh to take notice of the incident and warned to go on strike if the delinquents involved in the episode were arrested. The first information about the incident could not be registered till the filing of this report.
