The Ministry of Planning and Development has sent a summary to convene a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to approve the first digital population and housing census to be held in 2023.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (Statistics Department) has completed the census and its results have also been completed, which have now been sent to the CCI for approval and guidance.

Top government sources confirmed that through a summary sent by the Ministry of Planning, the CCI Secretariat/Cabinet Division has been informed that all the census work has been completed.

The decision to prepare and re-send the official summary clearly shows that the government is fully prepared to call a meeting of the CCI before the end of its term.

Earlier, it was discussed to hold a meeting of the CCI on August 2, 2023, but it could not be done, but now the summary has been sent to the CCI for approval of the results, which will create complications after the latest statement of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif regarding the conduct of the upcoming general elections.

There are three possibilities for the census results to be presented: either the results will be cancelled due to serious lapses made by all stakeholders, or there may be delays in delimitation after the results are approved.

The third possibility could be to set up a committee to properly resolve all issues which is acceptable to all stakeholders.
