Supreme Court orders to register Arshad Sharif’s murder FIR by tonight

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered to register the first information report (FIR) of the killing case of journalist Arshad Sharif by tonight.

Supreme Court 5-member bench headed by Justice Umar Bandial including Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the case today at 12:30 pm.

The court had issued notices to the interior secretary, foreign secretary, information secretary, director generals of the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA), Intelligence Bureau, and president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists.

Justice Bandial during the hearing also stated, “Mistreatment of journalists cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. In Pakistan, journalists are the voice of truth.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan also questioned the Attorney general stating why has the Supreme Court not yet received the fact-finding committee’s final report even though it has been a while since they returned.

CJP also called the medical report of the court unsatisfactory saying that every life must be prioritized.

Earlier today Court decided to take suo moto notice of Journalist Arshad Sharif’s death in Kenya as PTI and other political parties frequently requested that the Supreme Court investigate Sharif’s passing.

In a letter to the CJP, PM Shehbaz also requested the creation of a judicial panel to look into Sharif’s murder. The mother of the killed journalist also made a demand.
