Supreme Court should consider decision on Punjab, KP elections, says Ahsan Iqbal

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary General and Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal said that the Supreme Court should reconsider its decision to hold elections for the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

In an interview with the US broadcasting agency, Ahsan Iqbal said that the decision was given in haste. He said that the country will have to pay a heavy price as it will create a permanent political crisis in the country.

Ahsan Iqbal said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should also review the decision of elections in Punjab and KP.

The Federal Minister said that they were ready for elections all the time. He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan did not dissolve the provincial assemblies in Punjab and KP Assembly under democratic thinking just six months before the National Assembly elections.

He further said that if Imran Khan will form the government in Punjab then it will mean that the National Assembly elections have been given to the Punjab government forever, which will affect the election.

This will be a dangerous step as it will create a sense of deprivation in other provinces and shake the foundations of the federation, the minister added.
