Swat school van attack not terrorism, driver killed for honor: KP Police

Van driver murdered by his brother-in-law, motorcycle and weapon used recovered, IGP KP

Swat school van attack incident was not terrorism, but the driver was killed for honor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s inspector general of police (KP IGP) has said.

A school van was attacked in Swat two weeks ago. The driver of the van was killed while two students were injured in the incident when unidentified gunmen had opened fire at a van in Guli Bagh village.

IGP KP Moazzam Ansari has denied the terrorism linkage in the case. Addressing a press conference, he said that one man has been arrested by the police while two other were at large.

IGP also said that the van driver was murdered by his brother-in-law over honor, further adding that the motorcycle and weapon used in the incident have also been recovered.

The attack had sparked protests in the area after which thousands of people had marched to the streets demanding the arrest of culprits behind the attack on school van.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had also expressed concerns over the incident and law and order situation in KP. The minister, speaking in assembly, had said that the maintenance of law and order in the province was responsibility of the provincial government. He also had said that for establishing peace in the country armed forces have made countless sacrifices.
