Swati approaches IHC over fears of custodial killing

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) over fears of his custodial killing.

Swati has filed a petition in the IHC stating that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had filed a case against him under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). He has further stated that he had been subjected to the worst torture in custody.

Swati has further maintained that he had information about his custodial torture. The petition read, “Azam Swati can be subjected to any sort of inhuman treatment” and has also sought the details of the case against him.

He stated that basic human rights should be ensured and that he should not be transferred to any other place. The petition also stated that cases had been filed against him in different cities including Sindh.

The petition has made the federal government, FIA and IGs of Sindh and Balochistan parties.

Swati was arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday from his farmhouse in Islamabad by FIA’s Cybercrime wing after he had used foul language against the army chief. Yesterday the court granted a two-day physical remand of the PTI Senator. The case was registered under sections 500, 501, 505 and 109.
