Sweden Wanted To Bomb Afghanistan To Market Fighter Jets, Claims WikiLeaks

Sweden contemplated bombing Afghanistan as an alleged marketing ploy for their fighter jets, according to a fresh WikiLeaks claim that emerged Friday.

In a tweet posted on the official WikiLeaks account, it was asserted that the Swedish Military made a case to send its new ‘Gripen’ fighter jets to Afghanistan, as it would potentially be a good combat experience for the country’s air force. The move would ‘enhance the marketability of the Gripen fighter jet’, read the WikiLeaks report.

The reveal was published as part of a confidential cable from the US Ambassador to Sweden Robert Silverman to the NATO forces in Afghanistan. The cable insisted that Sweden do more in the US War on Terror in Afghanistan.

Sweden was a part of the International Security Assistance Force, which was a group of countries that assisted the NATO-led mission against militants in Afghanistan between 2003 and 2014.
