Taliban did not come to Swat for a fight: Barrister Saif

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif has said that the Taliban had not come to Swat for fighting.

On Friday, during an informal conversation with journalists in Peshawar, Barrister Saif said that the Taliban did not come to Swat to fight; in fact, some of them were seriously ill.

He said that the negotiations with the outlawed TTP are ongoing.

He also said that Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani has played an important role in the negotiations with the TTP.

He further stated that the negotiations are taking place only with the TTP, the rest of the Taliban groups do not want to come to the negotiations, and they do not want to see Pakistan and anti-peace negotiations succeed.

According to him, many groups within the Taliban do not want to see the negotiations with the government succeed.

Barrister Saif said that the Afghan interior minister had also invited Hafiz Gul Bahadur for negotiations.

He stated that TTP did not accept responsibility for the attack on the Swat school van and that the attack on PTI MPA Malik Liaquat Ali was not done by TTP but by the disgruntled Hafeezullah Kochwan group.
